Youtuber and mother of one, Sarah-Jane shares her experiences with babyproofing her home for the very first time.
When did you start thinking about home safety?
As soon as Ella started crawling, so around 8 months old.
Have you ever had an accident or near miss with your baby and if so how did this make you feel?
There has certainly been a few times where she has nearly had a tumble or trapped her fingers which honestly makes me feel sick to my stomach thinking about it. As a first time Mum, I’m super cautious but at the same time there are things I’ve never even thought about before that could be dangerous. You really do need eyes in the back of your head.
What were the first home safety precautions you put in place?
We started with the stair gate at the top of the stairs a few months back. Now Ella is getting very inquisitive and so close to walking, I have started thinking about doors and draws.
Did you feel that you had enough information about what to do to make your home safe?
I think there could certainly be more, I’ve heard a lot of scary stories and there’s so much more to learn about safety than I first realised.
Did you use other home safety products before the Fred ones?
No I didn’t, Fred was my first! I had seen a few people who I know and trust use them, so I knew I was making a great choice.
What advice would you give to parents who are thinking about buying home safety products?
Do your research. Home Safety is so important and it really is worth time and consideration.
What was the most effective safety precaution you took?
The stair gate by far! We went for the clear view stair gate which doesn’t have a bar across the bottom. I’m super clumsy these days and I don’t need any additional hazards!
What is that one piece of advice on home safety you’d like to offer new parents or parents to be?
Start thinking about it BEFORE your child is moving. They develop so quickly and will go to bed and wake up the next day with a brand new set of skills!
